Our History

The Minster Veterinary practice has been providing veterinary care to the pets of York for more than 100 years. Originally based in a converted townhouse in The Crescent Minster has expanded into one of York’s largest small animal practices.

Minster has six branches including its main small animal hospital in Salisbury Road, York. Minster moved the main hospital to its current site at Salisbury Road in 1985. Originally poultry and equine were both treated at this site, but since 1998 Salisbury Road has been a dedicated small animal practice. In 2023  the Salisbury Road practice gained hospital status, the highest level of accreditation, from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Our branches also gained General practice (GP) status too. We hold the highest accreditation “Green” by Investors In the Environment (iiE) for demonstrating commitment to reducing our environmental impact and to the continual improvement of our sustainability performance

Minster has steadily grown over the years and now has 27 vets, 31 nurses and nursing assistants and 20 receptionist
